How do therapy intensives work?

Therapy Intensives facilitate deep exploration of the roots of psychological factors impacting chronic mental or physical health imbalances. You will be provided a safe space to explore and address internal and subconscious factors that influence unhealthy coping and behaviors.

Intensives provide dedicated space for increased duration and scope of therapeutic sessions, to heal the symptoms which negatively affect you reaching your personal goals.

  • EMDR is a powerful therapeutic modality utilized in Intensive Treatment to address and resolve past traumatic experiences or negative memories. In an intensive setting, EMDR sessions are strategically designed to accelerate the processing of these experiences, reducing their impact on depressive symptoms. The therapist guides the individual through bilateral stimulation, typically involving eye movements, which facilitates the brain's natural ability to heal. In an intensive format, the concentrated focus on EMDR allows for a more rapid and profound exploration of trauma, promoting accelerated healing and emotional well-being.

  • Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy (KAP) is a therapeutic approach that combines the administration of ketamine with traditional talk therapy. Ketamine, a medication originally used as an anesthetic, has been found to have rapid-acting antidepressant and anxiolytic (anxiety-reducing) properties at lower doses.

In KAP, ketamine is used to help break down barriers that may hinder the therapeutic process. It can induce a state of consciousness that allows for deeper emotional exploration and insight. Unlike traditional antidepressants that can take weeks or months to show effects, ketamine often works within hours or days.

In an intensive format, you would still receive ample time in preparation for the medicine, as well as a guided dosing session, and integration sessions following.

  • In Intensive Treatment, Brainspotting is employed as a targeted approach to identify and process neurophysiological sources of emotional and physical pain. This modality acknowledges that specific eye positions (brainspots) correlate with unprocessed trauma or distressing experiences. In an intensive format, Brainspotting allows for a concentrated exploration of these spots, expediting the release of stored trauma. This focused approach within a shorter timeframe enhances the effectiveness of Brainspotting, enabling individuals to make significant strides in emotional healing and symptom reduction. Beyond mental health symptomology, brainspotting is also effective in treating chronic physical, mental and situational or personal challenges.

  • In an intensive setting, IFS sessions are tailored to swiftly delve into the various parts of the individual's internal system, fostering self-compassion and self-understanding. The therapist guides the client in identifying and interacting with different aspects of their psyche, facilitating a transformative process. This intensive exploration within a condensed timeframe accelerates the healing journey, positively impacting depressive symptoms. By integrating IFS into the intensive treatment plan, individuals experience a profound shift in their emotional well-being and gain valuable insights into the intricate interplay of their internal dynamics.

  • Naturopathy is integrated into Intensive Treatment as a holistic approach that recognizes the interconnectedness of physical and mental well-being. In an intensive setting, naturopathic principles are applied to develop a personalized treatment plan addressing nutritional imbalances, lifestyle factors, and natural remedies. This comprehensive approach supports brain health, mood regulation, and overall well-being, contributing to the effectiveness of the intensive treatment. By combining traditional therapeutic modalities with naturopathic elements, Intensive Treatment offers individuals a more holistic and accelerated path to healing and sustained mental wellness.

  • Breath and Relaxation Techniques: Incorporating breath and relaxation exercises into the therapy plan enhances self-regulation and stress reduction. Techniques such as deep breathing and progressive muscle relaxation can promote a calm state of mind, aiding in the management of depressive symptoms.

Visualization Practices: Utilizing visualization in therapy intensives involves guided imagery to explore and reframe thoughts, emotions, and past experiences. Visualization techniques can contribute to processing and healing, offering a powerful tool for emotional well-being.

Self-Expression: Encouraging self-expression is fundamental in Therapy Intensives. Whether through verbal communication, artistic endeavors, or journaling, self-expression fosters a deeper understanding of emotions and can be a transformative tool in the therapeutic process.

Nature Interaction: Integrating interactions with nature into the therapy plan recognizes the healing power of the outdoors. Nature walks, ecotherapy, or simply spending time in natural settings can enhance overall well-being and provide a unique avenue for self-discovery.

Holistic and Somatic Healing Treatments: Beyond traditional therapeutic approaches, incorporating holistic, somatic healing treatments such as acupuncture, massage therapy, or biofeedback can contribute to overall well-being and complement the therapeutic journey.

  • Meta analysis involves pooling and analyzing scientific data from multiple evidence based studies. This has demonstrated that Intensive Therapy is effective in healing from anxiety, depression, trauma and other physical and mental imbalances. Read more about it here.

Research published from the Journal of EMDR Practice and Research demonstrates that intensive therapy may assist clients in sustaining relief from post-traumatic stress disorder. In this study the clients engaged in only 2 days of intensive EMDR subsequently, which included four 90-minute sessions daily. Participants did experience and report sustained reduction in PTSD symptoms.

Naturopathy: For those who enjoy connecting with nature, research demonstrates that multiple days interacting in nature provides lasting healing effects. This includes decreasing stress and cortisol levels. Nature therapy is a great complement to intensive therapy, which calms your nervous system, providing a sense of calm and support.

  • Yes, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a cornerstone treatment modality used in our therapy intensives.

EMDR therapy focuses on the processing and resolution of distressing memories, experiences, or negative beliefs that contribute to depressive symptoms. It involves a structured protocol that incorporates bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements, hand taps, or auditory tones, while the individual holds specific aspects of the targeted memory or belief in mind.

EMDR therapy allows individuals to gain insight, process unresolved emotions, challenge negative self-perceptions, and develop more adaptive coping strategies.
